Gilmour strums a chord that sounds like angels’ trumpets and devils’ trombones and this guy asks why would he use a 12 string. I couldn’t watch the rest of the video. Gilmour should have ended the interview there.

I'm 60 in 3 weeks (very scary number). Really wish computers, inter network connectivity, IP protocol ratification, html and then web page programming language development to the eventual social media, especially UA-cam and then at some point, this video getting posted, that I could have watched it when I was 10!

Just discovered him and his playing, I followed a very similar path of learning to finger pick but never fully got there, it takes a tremendous amount of skill. What an absolute legend

Listening to knopfler just noodle depresses me as a guitarist. If someone gifted me a copy of guitar hero and inside there was just a picture of this guy, I wouldn't be annoyed I'd be impressed.

I'm not a musician, but I find it interesting that both Mark Knopfler and Lindsey Buckingham, two of the worlds greatest guitarists, rarely use picks. They are also both very humble, nice, and genuine guys.

I believe he is one of the best, if not the best guitar player in modern days.

It's so true what Mark says about the Strat, truly a piece of art. I just love looking at it, the shape, the curves....it's just sexy !! As great as Mark is with the guitar, he still is enamored with the Strat....lol

Top man. Mark should be included in everyone's list of top 20 guitar heroes....but he isn't. Instead, excellent players like Keith Richards, Pete Townsend, Dave Gilmour, Santana, Angus Young, Brian May, SRV, Eddie Van Halen, Slash and Nile Rodgers get in ahead of him.

I'm just getting into finger style guitar and just discovered Mark Knopfler. I knew he was an astounding finger style player but I had no idea he was such a blues hound. But it kind of makes sense he got his start playing country blues. It's so impressive the way he just bangs out Freight Train and Mississippi Blues and Blind Blake licks like it's nothing. I'm sure his knowledge of the old blues masters is encyclopedic.

I am into my third year of learning acoustic guitar (from youtube/internet) on the couch and I am really happy I just saw this "lesson" on fingerpicking and "fingers breaking the rules" as I have realized some time ago that most important is to enjoy using guitar and have fun with it, doesn't really matter which fingers goes on which string and do chords that it is convinient, as long as it sounds :)

He has mastered the dancing bass that Blind Blake uses in "That'll Never Happen No More", which tells me he is in a class above merely a good guitar player.

Mark should do a session with Tommy Emmanuel. They fit like fist and eye. Both calm, nice and the best of their class. Please lord, make this happen before they are part of your private band up there. You can enjoy Lemmy so far.

I made a strat in school in the mid 60’s , I spent months in woodworking classes doing it and the teacher helped me, I had a natural finish, a week before I put it in for assessment for my gce in woodwork it was stolen,!! Every time I still see a natural finish strat I think it might have been mine 🥲

Driven to be different... and good. I don't think that Mark Knopfler was cut out to be anything but a guitar player. When you study Chet Atkins - like Tommy Emmanuel has - you'll find a similar kind of attack of the strings. The great players tend to make their music interesting... to themselves and to you.

Is this the same guy that led an outdoor concert with around a 50,000 audience that I attended (in about 1990)?? Unbelievable. What a cooooool guy .
